NYC Sanitation Mobile App
Created a proposed redesign of the New York City Department of Sanitation’s (DSNY) mobile app to better educate New Yorkers on how to recycle and provide additional resources in their neighborhoods.

Project summary:
As a previous product design student at Useful School (2022), I created this redesign for my course project to optimize the mobile app for the DSNY using Figma, Miro and an interative design process.
Process
In order to arrive to my final designs, I started with empathizing with users of the app through research (which included reading the reviews on the apple and android app stores) and user testing. Then I synthesized the results to identify the problem users had with the existing app.
I then moved into the ideation stage by sketching and wireframing my design solutions which then came to life through a prototype that I tested with users to validate my designs.
Educate NYC on how to properly get rid of waste
I fully redesigned the “Get rid of screens” in the mobile app to provide a better resources for New Yorkers who want to know how to dispose of or recycle different types of waste and materials.
Updates I made include:
Utilized cards for material types as well as suggested items to motivate users to explore this functionality further.
Included a CTA button on some the organics and electronics screens that drive users to the events screen to find a drop off event near them - this would make it easier for residents to recycle and boost motivation to make it a habit.
This would not only help residents, but could also alleviate the workload on sanitation workers and also reduce contamination of recyclables.
